Education and access to knowledge are components of basic human rights, and it’s so humbling to be a part of the transformational journey that this region is embarking on.

Here in the Middle East, it is truer than anywhere probably, since there is a high concentration of people who are migrating for work and therefore exponentially more vulnerable and exposed to risks of forced labor. It’s a well-known fact and we work to change that.

So far into this journey, our experience has been nothing but amazing. Having the opportunity to work with leading companies who wants to influence not only their own ecosystem but strive beyond to change societal norms and empower people from the bottom up. That’s what inspires me the most.

Today marks the first day of making our training accessible to operators, janitors, and managers in the Middle East!

There are about 30 million migrants working in the Arab Gulf states – the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Qatar and Kuwait. About 80% of these are employed in low-paid sectors such as construction, hospitality and domestic work, and come from poorer countries in Asia and Africa. In UAE alone, more than 80% of the population consists of people having migrated from another country to make a living.

This dynamic puts people at risk of poor working conditions, forced labor, discrimination, and abuse. Changing this situation requires massive cooperation across businesses, governments, institutions and impact- driven tech companies like us, to harmonize social governance and enable global human capital to grow at scale.

Last year alone, we empowered more than 150,000 people with knowledge on human rights. In total close to half a million are using our digital learning platform. We look forward to this new chapter as we trailblaze our way into new regions.
