VF's worker rights strategy

VF is elevating its focus on worker rights putting social dialogue and industrial relations at the centre of its strategic effort. A key outcome of this focus has been to engage in a strategic partnership with Better Work on industrial relations with an overarching goal that:

Workers in VF’s supply chain are aware of their rights and responsibilities to enable effective social dialogue and trust the grievance mechanism in their workplace.

Building further on previous good results from Cambodia, VF is looking to address the need for improving workplace social dialogue in Bangladesh by expanding the scope beyond factory leadership. This means including all staff functions at the factories in the training and further learning process.

About the programme

A blended learning approach

Skilled facilitators and in-person sessions continue to be key elements to ensure successful implementation in factories when addressing such complex issues as social dialogue. A key focus is to deliver awareness training to the whole workforce to understand roles & responsibilities in a social dialogue context, and to support the constructive use of the participating committees and worker representatives. This means engaging with employees across the entire workplace not just for management and committee members and/or union representatives.

VF has partnered with Better Work Bangladesh for face to face interactive training, and with Quizrr for an expanded scope to include training to all supervisors and workers through a digital solution delivered on tablets. This allows the participating suppliers to assess, monitor and evaluate if knowledge gaps are addressed, closed and information retained with the employees.

Ensuring successful outcome

1. Create implementation team

Put together a team of dedicated managers and employees who will be programme champions! Explain the goals and benefits of the programme, and empower them to share the information (key dates, how to participate) with their colleagues. Check in with them periodically and support them in their efforts.

2. Attend onboarding sessions

Please join the onboarding sessions to understand how the survey and training will work, what types of results you might expect, and how to engage and empower your workers to share their voice!

3. Set training plans to meet targets

Quizrr will support your implementation team with developing a training plan to ensure you meet your training targets in a timely manner without jeopardising your production targets. Please follow the training plan closely to ensure everyone will have access to the training.

4. Engage and follow-up through dashboards
